Careers for Veterans with Ensco

Founded in 1987, Ensco plc is the world’s second largest offshore driller to the petroleum industry. Spanning six continents, this Fortune 1000 company’s fleet boasts of one of the world’s newest ultra-deepwater fleets and the largest fleet of active premium jackups. Ensco has partnered with Orion International to recruit transitioning and former military service members to join their team. Available positions include Mechanics, Roustabouts, Electricians, and Technicians.

Ensco is proud to have been named as one of the Top 100 Military-Friendly Employers by G.I. Jobs Magazine in 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2011. The list features firms from the Fortune 1000 list that have made the greatest effort and have had the greatest success in hiring military veterans. Criteria for selection include the strength of company military recruiting efforts, the percentage of new hires with prior military service, and company policies toward National Guard and Reserve service. Ensco is also an Orion Featured Employer.

Kurt Basler, Manager of Special Projects at Ensco, states, "Hiring veterans is part of our staffing strategy for good reason. Planning, execution and leadership are core competencies demonstrated in military operations and these are the same attributes that we look for in our employees."

Operating in some of the world’s most challenging offshore environments, Ensco has established a safety performance record that consistently exceeds industry averages. At Ensco, veterans experience a work environment similar to that of the military, with an emphasis on respect, safety, clear chain of commands, the opportunity for advancement, and a positive camaraderie.

Veterans also benefit from Ensco’s Competency Assurance Program (CAP), an extensive training program that enables them to continually build their competence and knowledge. Through programs like CAP, Ensco encourages employees to develop and grow inside the organization with a view toward promoting from within. Ensco’s training and orientation classes are consistent with a military mission orientation, developed with your success in mind. And like a military deployment, you will enjoy extended time off, but in a predictable rotation.

Ensco’s paid time off for military service reserve training and emergency duty or recall into active military service coupled with health insurance continuation for employees on military leave makes the company a great workplace where veterans are cultivated and supported throughout their career.

Ensco was recently featured in G.I. Jobs magazine, where author Dan Fazio experienced what life is like for veterans who work on Ensco’s offshore rigs. In the article, Fazio not only gives detailed descriptions of being a Roustabout and Electrician on the rigs, but he also speaks with veterans onboard, like Steven Matzen.

Matzen, an Army veteran, started as a roustabout for Ensco but recently moved up to electrical technician. He tells Fazio, “They have great benefits, just like the military does. The pay is very good. And with the economy the way it’s going, I think the oil field is only going to get better. (Veterans) that are looking for a job, I think there are numerous opportunities to excel.”

As a veteran, your military skills are a valued contribution to the Ensco team, and they are committed to making your transition from military life to a career with them a smooth process. Ensco appreciates the work ethic, maturity, technical knowledge, and leadership that a military veteran brings to the table. When hiring trained technicians to support the operations and maintenance of our drilling units, Ensco understands that there is no better place to recruit from than the United States military.
