Veterans Experience Professional Growth in Careers with Michelin

Since his creation in 1898, the Michelin Man has become more than just the immediately recognizable logo of Michelin, “Bibendum” (as he is named) has been voted the Best Logo symbol of all time and continues to be a part of the American landscape. And while most people have heard of Michelin and know who the Michelin Man is, they may not know about the dynamic employer behind the logo.

Michelin has 72 facilities in 19 countries with a commercial presence in over 170 Countries. There are approximately 100,000 employees worldwide who work for Michelin, and approximately 21,000 of these employees are in North America. Michelin has received three U.S. Military “Best Value Medal” awards for excellent quality and delivery performance, as well as awards for Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles and AARP’s “50 Best Employers for Workers over 50.”

At the helm of  Michelin North America is Chairman and President Pete Selleck, a United States Military Academy graduate and former Infantry Officer himself. The success of Selleck, as well as the many other veterans among the ranks at Michelin, led them to join with Orion International as a Featured Employer to offer great civilian engineering jobs for military officers. These positions include Industrial Engineers, Territory Sales Managers, Area Sales Managers, and Business Unit Leaders. Careers with Michelin come with benefits including Medical, 401K, Pension plan, relocation, term-life, flex spending accounts, and much more.

One veteran who recently made the transition from the military to a career with Michelin is Eric Comley, a former Field Artillery Officer. Eric says he would highly recommend Michelin to his military colleagues. Hired as a Business Unit Leader at Michelin in the Tire Building department, he manages about 40 employees in the tire assembly portion of the manufacturing process.

Eric also experienced another perk of working at Michelin. Employees there work with a Career Manager whose goal is to help them achieve their professional aspirations within Michelin. “Recently, I have been given the opportunity to change positions into the finance career path. Michelin has done a great job understanding what my long term goals are and working with me to develop a path to attain them,” Eric explains, “I was very impressed to find a company that works with employees to find what career path they are most interested in, and help them to get there.”

Traci Parris, also a Business Unit Leader, agrees: “They want to know what your aspirations are, and then they guide you in the right direction to enable you to meet these objectives. Everyone has an individualized training plan. You would never believe me if I told you how much Michelin invests in training employees. No other company can compare!”

A career with Michelin comes not only with a satisfying position today, but also a rewarding career path for tomorrow. Orion will be holding interviews for Business Unit Leader and Industrial Engineer positions in Ardmore, OK, on August 9, and will be holding ongoing interviews for Territory Sales Manager positions.
