Sean Allred’s Experience at a Military Hiring Conference

After graduating from North Georgia College in 2006, Sean Allred joined the Army and served as an Infantry Officer for eight years. He finished his military career as a Battalion level Operations Officer where he enjoyed the fast paced environment.

Following completion of his Military service, Sean began his civilian career search. He wanted to show employers his powerful communication skills, both verbal and in writing, focus and attention to detail, interpersonal skills, ability to continuously improve, develop relations and influence individuals and groups. He turned to Orion in November 2015 for extra support and guidance in his career search.

I had been going about seeking a future career opportunity the wrong way. I found job boards and other methods to be akin to playing the lottery, and didn’t give employers a true picture of my qualifications. The Orion program of self-study online, webinars, and small group discussions really helped me to articulate my qualities effectively during interviews.”

In late 2015, Sean attended his first Orion Military Hiring Conference in Raleigh, NC. Before the conference, all of the candidates attended a webinar with an overview and introduction to the companies, and tips for a successful conference. My Recruiter was able to quickly articulate and assist me in developing my focus on which types of positions would be the best fit. He has always been accurate and timely in the dissemination of information which in turn has given me a great deal of confidence moving forward professionally with the host of opportunities Orion has provided.

On his overall experience at the conference, Sean said, “The event was well- run, the recruiters were prompt and held to the daily schedule provided. Orion laying out the process was extremely helpful and informative. There were no surprises. There was open communication, everyone knew what to expect.

A Military Hiring Conference is the best opportunity to interview with several companies committed to the hiring process in just a few days. “The companies understood the value I bring as a veteran, and understood my military experience. I felt confident each company I interviewed with greatly valued my experiences and was looking at the potential for candidates in developmental roles.” After the Hiring Conference, Sean was able to reach back out to hiring managers personally, giving him the ability to continue the interview process.

We thank Sean for sharing his conference experience, and wish him all the best as he continues his career search! Stay tuned for a future blog post where we’ll check in with Sean and update you on his career search!
