Four Job Search Resources for Transitioning Veterans

Here at Orion, we strive to match the right man or woman with the right career. And for many, finding the right career means pursuing a variety of avenues in their search. That's why we don’t require that our candidates work with us exclusively. We understand that there are many ways to find a civilian career and encourage job seekers to look at all their options. So, for those that wanting to attack their job search from more than one angle, here a four resources you may want to check out.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service just announced the launch of this newly enhanced online site for employment services. The site combines job banks, state employment offices, American Job Centers, opportunities in top-trending industry sectors, and employer assistance in a single location.

Introduced by the Department of Defense, Department of Labor, Office of Personnel Management, Small Business Administration and the Department of Veterans Affairs, The Veteran Employment Center allows you to map your military skills, build a resume, post a profile, and search jobs.

Part of the White House's Joining Forces Initiative, this tool is powered by the Department of Labor and helps translate your military occupation into a civilian one. Simply enter your MOS or title, and you will receive a myriad of information, including sample job titles, skills, related occupations, wages, and an employment outlook. You can also browse careers by industry or search by key words.

Also part of the Joining Forces Initiative, the Gold Card provides unemployed post-9/11 era veterans with six months access to personalized case management, assessments, and counseling at One-Stop Career Centers located across the country.

Searching for a new career is a job in-and-of-itself, so it’s a smart move to leverage all the resources you can. We encourage you to check out our job listings and speak with a recruiter, as well as see what these great sites have to offer.
